Educational Technology End of Semester Reflections

Image
Hello! Welcome to post 6 of my blog! Here is a short reflection on how my semester went! How did you use AI applications in your practicum (e.g., not at all, lesson planning, assessment)? I did not use as much AI as I thought I would. I did use it during lesson planning to help in the section of real-world relevance as sometimes it was tough to connect what we were learning to how it would benefit students in the real world. What did you learn or “take-away” from this course and how has your perspective about integrating technology into K to 6 education changed/grown throughout the course? I use a lot more technology than I expected myself to use. All of my lessons included some use of technology, whether it was a slideshow presentation with the information or using the document camera, almost everything we did included technology. One thing I learned was that I like using technology, although not always reliable. I use it everyday and I like having everything on one device rathe...

Coding for Kids - Scratch

Image
Hello!  I was able to create a lesson based on Math and CTF outcomes! The lesson I created works around the number organizing idea. Grade 1 needs to know numbers 0 - 100 by the end of the year. This lesson requires a lot of prior practice, with both Scratch and computers in general, so I would not use this application right off the get go. The lesson I created is a good way summative assessment for near the end of the unit as students need to know each number and what they represent to complete this activity. This could also be an activity students do later on in the year as a review lesson later on in the year, once students are comfortable with computers/laptops and Scratch. Teaching with Tech: Stop Motion!

Image
Hello!  Today Grace and I was able to teach my peers about stop motion and how to use it within the classroom! We taught them that they can use it when students in Grade 1 are learning about the seasons. As a reflection, I think it went well as a test run of the app as well as the planning students need to do. I have learned that smaller groups and each student having a role is important. My peers had fun in the process and the final result as well. I think it went really well and everyone loved it and said they would use it in their practice as well! The links to both the lesson plan as well as the app is down below. Thanks!  Link to the lesson plan Link to the app

Blackfoot Confederacy: Kainai - Blood Tribe

(Credit to Wikipedia) Hello! I am excited to announce I made a digital story about the Kainai Indigenous group! I talked about the history of the treaties, the Blackfoot language, and even said a few names in Blackfoot! Super excited to learn and teach you all what I learned too! Hope you enjoy! X Account and Tools!

Image
I am happy to announce I was able to create an X account to be able to share educational tools! The website I chose is Brilliant.org. This website has a focus on math and science with lessons that can be done everyday either individually or as a class.  X (formerly Twitter) could be used as a tool when wanting to post real-time updates about student work or school announcements, as it a great place for families to see what the school is up to and the work students are completing. Another reason would be that it provides an opportunity to teach digital literacy skills, such as responsible online behaviour, evaluating sources, and engaging in productive online discourse. I am not that familiar with X and not many schools I know use it, so personally I do not believe I would use X in my teaching career as much as I would apps like Instagram or Pinterest. X is a great tool in general and could be very handy, however, I do not see a real benefit on using this app over the ot...

Blog Post 1: Educational Technology Diagnostic Assessment

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Alisha Saadat and I am in my third year of B.Ed with a minor in Science. I am excited to learn effective and impactful ways to utilize technology not only in my practicum placement but throughout my teaching career!  Previous experience with AI applications e.g. , ChatGPT) and how you have used them (e.g., writing assignments)? I have recently been working and trying to understand how much AI can do. Writing essays, creating an image, aiding in editing, or constructing lesson plans and rubrics, AI can help in many ways. In my second year, creating a fresh rubric from scratch was difficult for me . When I had no other option, I used ChatGPT to help me build a rubric that was vague enough that I could edit it to tailor my end goal better . But if ChatGPT hadn't given me that little piece of assistance, I never could have finished it. Educational technology being used in your 3rd year practicum placement? In my practicum placement, I notice...
